The DMA and Abu Dhabi police meet to discuss further cooperation
As part of their commitment to enhance the security and stability for the residents of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the UAE, a delegation from Abu Dhabi Police met with the Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA). Several topics were discussed, and top on the agenda of discussions was how the two entities can coordinate to achieve the Emirate’s policy that seeks to provide Abu Dhabi with stability and higher security standards to make it a better place for residents, investors, and visitors.
The two entities discussed the possibility of identifying performance indicators that can assist the police in measuring the information needs, which will help to guarantee the community’s safety and security. Continued coordination between the two entities, in addition to indentifying future strategic mechanisms of cooperation between the Abu Dhabi police and other governmental entities were also highlighted during the meeting.
A suggested proposal to create three joint committees was also discussed. These suggested committees are: a crime reduction committee, a roads safety committee, and a security protection committee. Suggestions on how to make these committees work effectively to achieve their objectives and how to better coordinate with the municipalities of Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and the Western Region were proposed.
Challenges in reducing crime and along with current initiatives to do so were also discussed. Some of the challenges mentioned are the lack of community awareness on how to prevent crime, and the need to enhance surveillance. The two entities emphasised the importance of community awareness sessions on crime reduction, and an electronic surveillance system for public facilities was suggested.
Al Ain municipality’s steps to enhance roads safety were lauded. Also, the discussions focused on the challenges to implement pedestrian safety programs, and changing the speed limits, in addition to other traffic safety initiatives.
The Western Region municipality’s initiatives to enhance the road and transportation system in the region were also discussed and highlighted in the meeting. The meeting focused on the proposed initiatives that aim to implement better traffic safety standards, and to establish a high-standard roads and transportation system.
As for Abu Dhabi Municipality, the DMA showcased the municipality’s initiative that seeks to enhance road safety in school areas, in addition to the roads safety strategy being implemented by the municipality.
This meeting comes as part of the DMA and the Abu Dhabi Police’s commitment to achieve the Abu Dhabi government’s vision of making the Emirate a safe and stable place for all residents.
