DMA and UPC organize workshops on using the Public Realm Design Manual

The Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA) in cooperation with the Urban Planning Council (UPC) held two workshops on using the Public Realm Design Manual (PRDM). The workshops were attended by specialists from relevant sectors of the Abu Dhabi Municipality, who are to apply the process of the new design guide, which will help in establishing a world-class public realm and build a world-class community for the Abu Dhabi Emirate.
The workshops which will also take place in Al Ain city and the Western Region, aim to shed light on the Public Realm Design Manual and to enhance the knowledge and skills of the employees in different sectors of the municipal system in order to apply the new design manual.
The Public Realm Design Manual lays the foundation for the Emirate's future vision and aligns with the principles of Emirate’s 2030 vision, which calls for more livable and comfortable public space across the Emirate that will make Abu Dhabi a sustainable, livable, and accessible Emirate.
The public realm manual is organized into four categories: parks; streetscapes; waterfronts, and public places. The manual focuses on human-scale development within a pedestrian-friendly environment and implements the principles of Estidama at the forefront of all plans. It will serve as an instrumental tool to assist municipalities, developers, and consultants while designing and constructing the public realm through a range of policies and guidelines.
This manual is an essential planning tool that will help the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in achieving its vision as well as the DMA's vision to create an advanced municipal system that enables sustainable development and enhances the quality of life in the Emirate.
