In conjunction with the Ministry of Environment and Water, Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA) hosted an award ceremony at its headquarters to recognize the contributions of entities that participated in its World Environment Day 2011 campaign.

Dr. Mariam Al Shenasi, Under Secretary at the Ministry of Environment and Water, and Dr. Mohamed Al Zarooni, Vice-Chairman and CEO of DSOA, gave away the awards and trophies to representatives from Dubai Electricity & Water Authority, Jebel Ali Free Zone Authority (JAFZA), Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), Environment Center for Arab Towns, Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing Establishment, Dubai Media Inc., and Imdaad.

Dr. Juma Al Matrooshi, Executive Vice-President, Corporate Excellence and Support at DSOA, Eng. Muammar Al Katheeri, Executive Vice-President of Engineering Management at DSOA, as well as senior officials from the award-winning entities attended the event.

Dr. Mariam Al Shenasi said: “We are grateful to Dubai Silicon Oasis for their faith in our vision towards assuring environmental sustainability for life. Today’s event is a reinforcement of DSO’s commitment to the partnership forged with the ministry and other government entities.

“We hope that more private sector majors are inspired to follow DSO’s lead as we believe that only through concerted collaboration can we make tangible progress in preserving our resources and safeguarding our environment.”

Eng. Muammar Al Katheeri said: “We strongly believe that preserving the environment is a global priority. It was a privilege to be part of the region’s celebrations of the World Environment Day and our efforts continue to be focused on engaging the private and government entities.

“Our initiative to organize such events is aimed at encouraging various stakeholders to act responsibly and take preventive steps. We are grateful to the Ministry of Environment and Water for their support in organizing this event. We are also thankful to all the participants that partnered with us and attended the seminars and workshops on ecology.”

For the third consecutive year, Dubai Silicon Oasis organized a number of activities as part of the World Environment Day, including planting of trees as well as educational seminars for employees and tenants. In conjunction with the participating entities, DSO also hosted activities at the Dubai Mall featuring school visits and a children’s fashion show as part of a mission to encourage eco-consciousness among the residents and children.

A wholly-owned entity of Dubai Government, Dubai Silicon Oasis operates as a free zone technology park for the semiconductor, microelectronic and other high technology-based companies looking to set up their regional headquarters and R&D facilities in the Middle East and Africa region.
