Dubai Customs launches PC Refurbishment Initiative with Dubai Municipality

Dubai Customs has recently agreed with Dubai Municipality to send its outdated computer machines and their accessories to the PC Refurbishment Project which the Municipality runs in cooperation with Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charity and Humanitarian Establishment in order to refurbish them and give them to educational, social and charity establishments to be used in different technical educational programs.
Feryal Tawakul, Executive Director Community Affairs and Government Partnership said that the agreement is part of the department’s programs that aim at protecting environment, fostering the relationships with civil society establishments, and supporting charity programs carried out by these establishments. According to the program, the department’s outdated PC machines will be sent for refurbishment and the department will carry out awareness program directed to its staffs, clients and their families to donate their expendable PC’s for the project.
Tawakul said that Hamdan Al Shaer, Director of Environment Department at Dubai Municipality, Qasim Mohammed Rafie, and Khalid Mousa Idrees, technical automation officers received the first batch of the PC’s and their accessories during the meeting that was held last week to launch the initiative.
Dubai Customs adopts a number of initiatives that are concerned with environmental preserving and sustainability which include recycling paper, plastic, glass wastes and refilling ink cartridges. “Wafer” (Save) project, launched by the Dubai Customs 18 months ago, meant to make the cadres of the department aware of the necessity to reduce electricity and water usage inside the department and enlighten them with best practices and solutions used in lessening energy and water consumption in their residences. Tawakul said that Dubai Customs is planning to broaden the horizons of “Wafer” initiative to include suppliers, clients and strategic partners by sending mobile messages and emails to them.
PC Refurbishment Project, which is supervised and run by specialized teams in coordination with Microsoft, aims at protecting and advancing environment in the UAE, reducing negative effects that result from improper disposal of these machines, realization of corporate commitments towards charity work, and also enhancing tangible partnership with different establishments, and spreading technical education.
