Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), a member of TECOM Investments, today announced the launch of its Patients' Rights Campaign and Charter to increase public awareness on their rights and responsibilities in healthcare.

The campaign was launched with the support of the Customer Protection Unit (CPU) and DHCC's regulatory body - the Center for Healthcare Planning and Quality (CPQ), which are responsible for safeguarding patient rights and healthcare standards at Dubai Healthcare City.

The launch coincides with the launch of a new DHCC website that enables the public to search for doctors by over 60 specialties, 30 languages, 50 insurance providers. The portal also lists their qualifications – ensuring transparency in information about the physicians that are practicing at DHCC. In addition, as part of increasing dialogue about healthcare, DHCC has established a presence through Facebook and Twitter.

Dr. Ayesha Abdullah, Executive Director, DHCC, said: "We are committed to providing the public with accessible and relevant information to help them make intelligent decisions about their healthcare. We know from patients and healthcare professionals at DHCC that people want clear information about different healthcare providers and services, as well as information about what languages physicians speak, the qualifications they have and the insurance facilities that are accepted. Our new website provides this information at the click of a few buttons.

"At the same time, we know that the world of medicine and healthcare can be overwhelming to the public and knowing which specialist to see or deciphering medical terminology can be confusing. This is why we are highlighting our Patient Charter, which sets out clearly what rights patients have when it comes to healthcare, such as having the right to have things explained to them in a way they understand, the right to confidentiality, equal treatment and to seek a second opinion."

The patient charter is available through DHCC's clinics, hospitals and website, reflecting its commitment to patient care and safety, and to being a leading provider of healthcare in the region.

Within the past eight years, DHCC has grown into a cluster of over 90 facilities as well as over 100 commercial and retail services. Both of DHCC hospitals have achieved JCI accreditation – the international quality mark of excellence.

With its stringent, regulatory standards, developed in line with international best practice, the CPQ is setting the benchmark for healthcare delivery and patient care in the region.

All healthcare professionals and facilities listed on the new DHCC website will have been through a detailed and independent assessment including in-depth vetting and credential checks, health and safety assessments and design reviews - and inspections continue to be conducted in these areas on a regular basis. In addition, the Customer Protection Unit within CPQ, which handles patient feedback, ensures that patient welfare is of the utmost priority.
