Dunia Finance, the Abu Dhabi based financial services company, organized a successful National Blood drive across its Financial Centres in the UAE, calling on all UAE residents to help prevent blood shortage issues in the country. The company collaborated with the Sheikh Khalifa Medical City Blood Bank in Abu Dhabi and The Blood Donation Centre in Al Wasl Hospital in Dubai to oversee the donation and collection process.

Over 200 people contributed in Dunia’s Blood Drive, including a large percentage of dunia customers, employees as well as donors from across the UAE.

The drive, organized under the company’s dunia cares platform, was part of Dunia’s continuous efforts to address key social, health, environmental and community issues in the UAE. During the drive, Dunia collected over 90,000 ml of blood, which in total constitutes approximately 1,010 lives being saved, according to blood bank statistics, a new record high for the drive.

Rajeev Kakar, Executive Director & CEO of Dunia Finance, said: “Dunia is a responsible community player. We want to promote wellness and do what we can to help one another – especially if we can help save lives. This is our seventh blood drive and the response this time round has been overwhelming, with donors from all around the Emirates joining us in the initiative. We consider all those who contributed to be heroes; their contribution will have helped to save many lives.

Human blood has no substitute. Requirement of safe blood is increasing and regular voluntary blood donations are vital for blood transfusion services. We urge the community to continue contributing to this cause.”

“Every few minutes someone needs a blood transfusion in the UAE. This could be for a traffic accident victim, for a heart surgery, for women who have complications during birth or for a cancer patient. There is a huge demand for blood and the daily requirement is about 200 units of blood.” Said Dr. Laila Al Shaer, Head of Dubai Blood Donation Centre-Pathology & Genetics Department.

She added, “Dunia has been our long term partner and supported us whenever we face a shortage by continuously helping us raise awareness for the issue and getting donors to come to donate blood on a large scale basis….”
