Over 60 kilograms of cocaine hidden inside shampoo bottles and cosmetics imported from Brazil were seized at Beirut’s Rafik Hariri International Airport by the Internal Security Forces, the security agency announced Saturday.
The ISF seized 98 shampoo bottles containing 61 percent cocaine per bottle, adding up to nearly 60 kilograms of the illicit substance valued at an estimated $3 million. The packaging of the imported cosmetics had a global brand trademark, an ISF statement said.
After four months of investigations, the ISF arrested one of the key smugglers involved in the operation on Aug. 15. The Lebanese man, identified as M.H., born in 1972, was arrested in Zahle’s Dahr al-Baidar.
Investigations are ongoing under judicial supervision while the police are working on arresting other suspects.
