A 37-year-old GCC suspect has been cleared on Wednesday by the Abu Dhabi Federal Court of Appeal of the charges levelled against him, but was ordered to be placed in a psychiatric treatment centre.
The man, Kh.M.M.B, was accused by the state security prosecution of setting up and managing accounts on social media platforms where he posted offensive information against the security bodies in a brotherly country and insulting one of its symbols, putting the higher interests of the country at risk.
He was charged with posting offensive information against the country.
In another case, a GCC suspect identified as N.R.A.N has been ordered by the same court to be placed at a counselling centre of the Ministry of Interior. The court also ruled that he be put under surveillance and travel ban lasting six months, on charge of being a potential terrorist threat.
