The Sharjah Police have launched an investigation after the body of a newborn boy was found in Al Sajjal landfill recently.
The garbage collector informed the police operations room as soon as he spotted the body.
A team of police patrols, forensics officers and criminal investigation department (CID) was dispatched to the site. The team swung into action and reached the place immediately. They collected evidence and examined the dumping area.
Initial investigations have revealed that the baby was premature and could have been only six-month-old.
Prima facie, the police believe the boy was born out of wedlock and his parents decided to abandon him following an abortion.
Police are searching for the mother, who could be in poor health after delivering the premature baby.
