A 13-year-old boy was charged with assault after firing a McDonald's chip through a straw at someone's face.
The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, used the straw to launch the chip at a young woman's head, prosecutors alleged.
The row resulted in three of his friends clashing with four young women outside the McDonald's at the Broadway shopping centre in Hammersmith, west London.
He was arrested and prosecutors took months to build up a case against him, which his mother rubbished by saying he was aiming it at a friend, The Sun reports.
The case was eventually dropped when he accepted a police caution, with his mother slamming the ordeal as 'ridiculous'.
His friends, all aged 13, were also charged. One pleaded guilty, one was referred for a caution and another is awaiting trial.
The exact wording of the offence was 'assault by using a straw to fire a chip, hitting a woman in the face'.
The boy's mother added it was a waste of time, as her son 'actually threw the straw wrapper at a friend'.
She told the newspaper: 'It's ridiculous. I tried to put a chip in a McDonald's straw. It doesn't fit.'
It comes as an American man demanding McDonald's workers pay for a replacement watch after he broke it in their restaurant went viral.
He was filmed shouting at a female customer with a young child to 'mind her own business' before he launched a furious tirade at the employee behind the counter.
The clip has been viewed thousands of times online.
