Residents in a northeast Lebanon border town have discovered an unusually large bat, state media reported on Monday.
The National News Agency said residents of the town of Ras Baalbek found the the bat, which was about the size of a large chicken, tangled in a hunting net.
They opened fire on it as it tried to rip through the net. The bat was killed before it could attack any humans or livestock.
Bats can be carriers of deadly diseases, such as rabies.
No other massive bats have been discovered in the area.
