A short film that pays tribute to Lebanon’s five UNESCO World Heritage sites has been honored at the 2018 Tokyo International Foto Awards.
The 12-minute video was commissioned by the Cedars International Festival to promote its 2018 edition last summer and features drone footage of Byblos, Tyre, Anjar, Baalbek and the Qadisha Valley.
In a statement Tuesday, MP Strida Geagea, who heads the CIF, commended the film's director of photography, Saer Karam.
The video received the Gold Award in the Advertising/Moving Images category at TIFA, an annual competition that recognizes and seeks to bring exposure to amateur and professional photographers from around the world, according to its website. The winners were announced at the end of last month.
The CIF film featured a song performed by renowned Lebanese singer Magida El Roumi, “Hal Arz Meen Talou?” (“The Cedars, Who Can Reach Them?”). Roumi performed the song live at the CIF festival in July, which also featured global pop star Shakira.
