The movie may have been called ‘Gone In 60 Seconds’ but well-heeled petrolheads in the UAE can still roar away with the film’s prized Eleanor Shelby Mustang - if they’re super quick.
The stunning silver, 1967 Ford Mustang - driven in the movie by Nicolas Cage and powered by a 650bhp turbo engine - is for sale on UAE website Dubizzle.
Screeching in at Dhs470,000, down from Dhs510,000, the car’s Dubai-based owner Faisal Ballaith says his magnificent motor - which has ‘Gone in 60 Seconds’ engraved on the engine, along with signatures of the movie’s stars - is “amazing”.
“It looks better in real life than in the movie,” the Emirati motoring enthusiast said.
The Jerry Bruckheimer car classic sees Nicolas Cage’s master car-thief Randall ‘Memphis’ Raines forced into stealing 50 cool cars in 72 hours for crime king Raymond ‘The Carpenter’ Calitri - or see his younger brother Kip killed.
The prize catch in the flick, which also stars Angelina Jolie, is the Eleanor Mustang - the one ‘boost’ that has previously eluded Cage’s character.
Ballaith says of Eleanor: “This car is something that nobody else has”.
Ballaith has Eleanor safely parked at his luxury car dealership Al Ameer Motors. And he added: “Everyone wants say a Bugatti, but in the UAE so many people have a Bugatti - only one person can have this car.
“It’s a collector’s car.”
However, those wanting a piece of recent Hollywood history better get the pedal to the metal. The lucky owner revealed he’s had “lots” of interest in Eleanor. “I have one guy who really wants to buy it - he’s very interested.
“He’s very famous - if I told you who he was then everyone would know his name,” said Ballaith, confirming the potential purchaser is Dubai-based.
Eleanor’s current owner said the dazzling drive originally belonged to a VIP in Abu Dhabi, who gifted it to a friend of Ballaith, who then passed it on to him.
Dubizzle marketing manager Barry Judge told 7DAYS that the car was one of 11 Eleanor Shelby Mustang’s made for ‘Gone in 60 Seconds’ - six of which were written off during filming.
