The Internal Security Forces’ Information Branch arrested a man for allegedly running over his 14-month-old son and burying him in secret in the Tyre town of Tayr Filsey, the state-run National News agency reported Sunday.
On Saturday, R.H., a 33 year-old Syrian national, was driving his pick-up in reverse gear when he ran over his son Youssef after failing to notice him, a security source told said.
R.H. works at a stone crushing plant, where he lives with his family. The incident took place at the plant, and local health authorities were called to the scene. They transferred the child to a nearby health facility, where it was confirmed that he had died, and his body was handed back to the father.
Instead of reporting the incident to security forces and informing them of the death of his child, R.H. buried his son in secret later the same day, at around 3 p.m., the source said.
Though it remains unknown how the ISF was alerted to the incident, police arrested R.H., who then led them to the location of the body. The ISF dug out the child’s body and transferred it to Tibnine Governmental Hospital, where it will be inspected by a forensic doctor.
The father was handed over to the relevant authorities, according to the NNA.
The father and local health authorities are expected to testify as to why the incident was not reported to police, the source said.
