One person was arrested as police in New York searched for the person responsible for selling a batch of the synthetic drug K2 that left 25 people hospitalized Saturday night.
Officials said all 25 victims had a connection to a deli in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn. Police executed search warrants for the Big Boy Deli and the Deli and Grill as they attempted to determine how they may be involved.
All 25 of the patients affected by the overdoses are expected to survive.
Police arrested Tyquan Holley, 41, for criminal possession of a controlled substance after he was found with K2 synthetic marijuana on Myrtle Avenue near Broadway.
While conducting searches of the delis, police took two other people into custody on charges of possession of untaxed cigarettes.
In July 2016, at least 33 people were hospitalized due to overdoses of K2 in the same Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood.
The form of synthetic marijuana, also known as spice, was banned in New York City in 2015, but some stores in the neighborhood and other parts of Brooklyn continued to sell it.
