"I told the lie to the manager so that he would realise my situation and offer me a salary hike."

A man, who worked for the public prosecution, denied the charge of accepting bribe from a woman, at the court on Tuesday.

He was charged at the Sharjah Criminal Court after his manager filed a complaint in this regard.

The defendant, who had been working for the public prosecution for the last six years, told the court that he made up the story of bribe to coerce the manager to give him a salary hike.

During the court hearing, the defendant burst into tears and said there was no such woman and nor did he receive any money.

"I told the lie to the manager so that he would realise my situation and offer me a salary hike. I made up the story that I demanded bribe from a woman to carry out her work. I said I was forced to accept the bribe as my salary hadn't been increased. Now, I regret for the lie," the accused told the court.

He said it was just a lie he told his manager. "I didn't get any money. There is no such woman. It was just a pressure tactic to get a salary hike," he said.
