Police arrested one of two people suspected of stealing a speed radar and camera from a highway in Metn, a security source told The Daily Star.
The source said the thieves were two men from the Hamieh clan, who meticulously removed and stole the radar from a pole on the busy highway.
Police bikers chased the perpetrators and were able to arrest one of them. The second one is still on the run.
The source said the cost of each machine is around $70,000, but it was unclear if they were motivated by money, or something else.
The camera in the machine took photos of the two men while they worked to remove it, the source explained.
The Traffic Management Center had said Monday that on Sunday alone, police radars busted 800 speeding motorists. TMC also posted on its account that 6,893 people were caught speeding from Jan. 16 to 25.
