Hoda Ismail, a Palestinian living in the Burj al-Barajneh refguee camp, became an instant multimillionaire Thursday after winning the lottery.
Ismail, a mother of five, and her husband have been playing the lottery regularly since 1996, she told local media in an interview Friday.
“Every morning I think of this. When I’m drinking my coffee, I get these thoughts: What would I do if I won the lottery? Whether it was me or my husband who won, we would both think about what would we do,” she said.
Ismail said she was sitting home alone Thursday evening when her son and husband came in and told her that the lottery ticket she had bought was the winner.
Ismail will receive LL3,888,823,342 ($2,581,167.61). “I’m happy. I don’t know what to say.” What she did know, she said, was that she wants to give her children a good life.
