Sitting in economy can an uncomfortable experience, but one gymnast has revealed a unique way to avoid feeling cramped on a plane seat.

Stefanie Millinger, 26, from Austria wowed her Instagram followers by sharing a video of her performing an impressive contortionist move on the seat of a plane.

In the footage, she can be seen standing on her plane seat and curving her torso so far behind her that her head touches the back of knees.

She then contorts her body by sliding her head between her ankles, before ending up with her chest flat on the chair, with both feet hanging over her shoulders.

While many of us are advised to take a short walk up and down the aisle to increase the blood flow to our legs, Stefanie Millinger, from Austria, had other ideas.

'Now...that is a good way to stretch right in your seat,' one fan wrote, while another quipped: 'Is this the new brace position?'

At the end of the bizarre clip, Stefanie buckles her belt around her back and gives the camera a cheeky grin.

The gymnast was heading to Poland when she decided to attempt the rather unique in-flight exercise.

And the video, which has now gone viral with more than 270,000 views, left many impressed and wondering what moves they could do to ease the pain of a long journey.

'True meaning of flexibility,' wrote one, while further comments from those praising her body bending skills included: 'I'm impressed' and 'she's amazing.'

Another keen to get some advice for her upcoming long-haul flight penned: 'I could sure use a suggestion for an option from NY to London.'

Since posting the video to her 226,000 Instagram followers, it has received over 270, 000 views - with some using the clip as an excuse to take a swipe at the lack of seat space on airlines.

'Quick - erase this before you inspire other carriers to reduce leg room even more,' wrote one witty social media user, while another quipped: 'This is actually how the airline seats are designed to fit people.'

Other humorous comments included: 'she should always get the middle seat' and 'Very good, but can she do the same on a Ryanair flight? That's a real challenge.'

While you may think the talented contortionist made the moves look easy, that's because she is actually a professional.

Stefanie was given the golden buzzer after performing an impressive routine on Germany’s Got Talent.

But not everyone loved her unusual moves - with some more concerned about her hygiene.

'This is one of those moments, 'just because you can, doesn't mean you should,' wrote one, while another worried: 'So many germs.'

A further seemed a bit freaked out by the whole routine and commented: 'That's just...unnatural.'
