The Fujairah Court of Appeals imposed a fine of Dh5,000 ($1,361) on a man who fraudulently took Dh30,000 ($8,166) from a woman for incense that he claimed would ward off evil spirits.

The suspect made a phone call to a woman in Dibba Fujairah, telling her that she and her family have been possessed, as per Araa news report. The woman believed him and asked him to exorcise the spirits. The suspect sold her some incense - whose worth was falsely put at Dh30,000 ($8,166) by him - disguised to help her out.
When she tried to contact him after the dealing, he refused to respond to her phone calls. The woman informed her husband about the matter and the couple approached the police.
The Sharjah Police launched a manhunt and arrested the 'sorcerer' a few months later. After probing his phone, the police found the woman's phone number in his list of contacts. They asked her to lodge a complaint against the man in order to carry out the necessary procedure and prosecute him for his crime.
The man confessed to the charges of duping the woman under the garb of practicing sorcery.
