A pair of glasses belonging to Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani has commanded the highest bid at a gala dinner in the Qatari capital Doha.
A Qatari woman has reportedly paid QR2.4 million (approx. $653,000) for the glasses that Sheikh Hamad was wearing as he arrived to the Eighth Social Development Centre (SDC) Charity Gala Dinner on Wednesday evening.
The winning bids totaled QR7.8 million ($2m) for eight auction lots at the Brazilian-themed gala night that featured short films and artistic performances.
The winning bids included a letter written by Mahatma Gandhi (QR2 million / $550,000), a Cobra Recreation car (QR1.6million / $440,000), a Brazilian FR Hueb 18-carat tribal bracelet (QR450,000 / $123,000), a King Fuad antique plate (QR350,000 / $96,000), FC Barcelona jersey and ball signed by the team plus four VIP tickets to a Barcelona game (QR600,000 / $165,000), a classic jersey and photo signed by Brazilian football legend Pelé (QR300,000 / $82,000) and four Formula 1 Paddock VIP tickets (QR100,000 / $27,000), local media reported on Thursday.
