A panel of experts from the Council of Ministers has emphasized the need to implement marriage courses among couples to help curb the rising divorce rates in the Kingdom.

The panel suggested that these courses would be conditionally-linked to government loans related to marriages, meaning that if a couple wishes to receive support from the government, they may need to first complete a marriage course in order to make them eligible.

Sources from the council have said that this new proposal comes within the framework of wider efforts to improve the stability of young relationships in the Kingdom.

As reported locally by Okaz, the panel of experts highlighted the need for families to become familiar with marriage rights under Shariah, and with the obligations of all family members regarding marriage, divorce, alimony and more.

They confirmed that familiarity with these values will help newly-weds understand the real meaning of marriage before embarking on the lifelong journey it entails.
