Three Arabs - a divorced man and his two brothers - have been charged by the Sharjah Criminal Court with blasphemy for insulting the divine, as they spoke over phone with the ex-wife of the first accused (the ex-husband) while standing in a parking lot of a residential building where the woman stayed.

Hearing the case, the court found that the defendants had used offensive words against the divine and religion.

The three denied the charges and pleaded not guilty.

The ex-wife had lodged the complaint at Buhaira police station.

The court heard a witness who testified that she lived with the complainant in the same building. She said that on the day of the incident, she was with the woman when she received a call from her ex-husband. He and his two brothers threatened the complainant that they would fabricate a case against her and get her deported, the witness pointed out.

She added that as the phone was put on the speaker, she could hear the woman's ex-husband insulting the divine and religion, while issuing threats to her.

The witness told the court that she had never met or saw the man. She added that the defendants and woman were arguing over debts and maintenance of the children.
