As most of Syria shuts down because of the raging civil war, one bakery in the Northern city of Aleppo has kept open, trying to feed the very hungry residents their daily bread.
While the bombs and gunfire certainly pose a risk to Syrians, the threat of starvation is an increasingly serious one particularly in the besieged northern city.
According to Reuters news agency, the bakery is providing around 1,000kg of bread every day although the location has to be kept secret to protect owners and customers.
Bakery lines in Syria have regularly come under attack from regime shells as residents queue for hours to try to get the last of the scarce commodity. In December last year more than 100 people were killed in a bread line in Hama province after Syrian army forces launched an air strike, apparently targeting the civilians.
Aleppo residents, speaking to Reuters, said the Free Syrian Army (FSA) has been paying to keep the secret bakery in operation. The rebel fighters have been battling against regime forces in the area for months, with both sides struggling to keep hold of the city.
However, amid the fighting, residents still need to eat and the secret bakery is keeping them in at least one staple of life.
