More than 41,000 tickets for speeding were issued to motorists during the three-day Eid al-Fitr break.
Only one traffic death was recorded during the same period.
Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of Dubai Traffic Police, said there were 41,423 speeding fines between Friday and Sunday.
Of that figure, 1,253 motorists were caught exceeding the speed limit while crossing traffic signals.
Most speeding incidents happened on Shaikh Zayed Road.
Three major accidents took place during the three days of Eid, leading to one death, one serious injury, one moderate injury and one minor injury.
The first major accident, Col Al Mazroui said, was a truck overturning in Jebel Ali area, causing the driver’s death.
“The accident took place around 2,30pm on Friday. Experts at the scene said the cause was inattention.”
On Saturday, two Pakistani men were run over in Ras Al Khor industrial area at 6.30am.
He said the two men were standing on the pavement when a vehicle swerved and hit them. One of the men was severely injured and the other sustained minor injuries.
Also on Saturday, Dubai Police’s operations room received a call at 8.45am about a serious accident on Al Khail Road in the Dubai direction.
A pick-up truck had rear-ended a vehicle, and the pick-up driver was trapped inside his vehicle.
Col Al Mazroui said that the rescue teams extricated him after dismantling the door of the pick-up. The driver sustained minor injuries.
He said the accident occurred because the pick-up driver was not paying attention to the road.
On Sunday evening, a vehicle went up in flames on Umm Suqeim Road near the Al Khail exit, but there were no injuries or deaths.
The fire was swiftly put out by the Dubai Civil Defence.
Last Eid Al Fitr, Dubai Police recorded 25 traffic accidents — between July 28-30 — of which 10 cases resulted in injuries. There was one death, five were moderately injured and 21 sustained minor injuries during the three-day period.
Col Al Mazroui explained that 25 per cent of the traffic accidents that took place during the first half of 2015 were caused by tailgating.
With regard to maritime accidents or beach incidents such as drowning, Major Ali Abdullah Al Naqbi, Head of the Maritime Rescue Department at the Department of Transport and Rescue of Dubai Police, said there were none during the Eid break.
