Islamic World Heritage Committee of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation has recently registered the Ajloun Castle on the final list of the Islamic World Heritage, the Department of Antiquities announced on Sunday.
The department said that the castle would be granted the official logo of the Islamic World Heritage, through which the site will attain big importance via tourist and media promotion, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The castle will also benefit from any support to heritage projects and have a priority in restoration and preservation processes.

The castle was constructed between 1184 and 1188 by the nephew of the Muslim military leader Saladin, according to www.touristjordan.com.
The strategic location of the castle enabled Saladin’s army to look out across the Jordan Valley for invaders, the website added.
