Saudi Arabia Implements Penalties for Hajj Permit Violations

ALBAWABA Saudi Arabia has begun implementing penalties on individuals caught without a Hajj permit in a campaign starting from Sunday, June 1,2024.

The penalties target violators within Mecca, the central region, holy sites, the Haramain train station in Al-Rasifah, security checkpoints, and sorting centers.

According to Saudi newspaper "Al-Watan," the General Security has confirmed the commencement of penalties for those violating Hajj regulations and instructions without a valid permit.

Individuals caught without a Hajj permit face a hefty fine of 10,000 Saudi riyals (approximately $2,700). This penalty applies to citizens, residents, and visitors found within the specified geographical areas without proper documentation. Residents may also face deportation and a ban from re-entering the Kingdom, with durations set by the law. The General Security underscores the importance of adhering to Hajj regulations to ensure the safety, security, and comfort of pilgrims during their rituals.

In addition, severe penalties await individuals caught transporting violators of Hajj regulations without permits. These penalties include imprisonment for up to six months, fines of up to 50,000 Saudi riyals, confiscation of vehicles by court order, deportation of violators (especially expatriates) after serving their sentences, and bans from re-entering the Kingdom for specified periods. The fines escalate with the number of violators transported.

Saudi Arabia previously announced that participation in the Hajj pilgrimage is only possible with a valid Hajj visa issued by Saudi authorities. This process involves coordination with countries through their Hajj affairs offices or via the "nusuk" platform for countries without official Hajj offices.

The implementation of these penalties underscores the Kingdom's commitment to upholding Hajj regulations and ensuring the safety and security of pilgrims. With the Hajj being a sacred journey for millions, adherence to regulations is crucial to maintaining the sanctity and integrity of the pilgrimage experience.
