This is the shocking moment a frenzied crowd of commuters violently swarmed into a subway car.

Telemarketer Daniel Da Paixao, 26, from Rio de Janeiro, was travelling to work on the subway recently when he witnessed the jaw-dropping scene.

As the subway Mr Da Paixao was travelling on approached the Alvorada station in the Barra da Tijuca neighbourhood, dozens of commuters began banging on the train's windows.

They then violently pushed the doors open and swarmed in, almost tripping over one another while desperately trying to secure themselves a seat.

However, Mr Da Paixao seemed unmoved by the commotion and even a little amused.

He said: 'This happens every day of the week, from Monday to Friday.

'People are desperate to get on the bus because there isn't enough space for everyone.

'Almost every day there is some sort of accident, I've seen many people getting injured.'
