A 25-year-old maid has been charged with attempted murder at the Dubai Court of First Instance for allegedly stabbing her friend's fiancé.

The incident happened on February 3 and was reported at Naif police station.

The maid, an Ethiopian, denied the charge, claiming she did not intend to kill him.

The complainant, a 40-year-old Sudanese man, said he was waiting for his Ethiopian fiancée near his place in Al Murar when the latter arrived with the defendant.

"As I learned that they wanted to go to a nightclub, I grabbed my fiancée and told her not to go with her. But the defendant spoke to her in their language and asked her to make me believe they were not going," the man said.

When he tried to walk away with his fiancée, the accused allegedly stabbed him in the chest with a knife, he added.

The man fainted shortly after.

His 25-year-old fiancée supported his statement during the public prosecution investigation, saying that she witnessed the incident.

The forensic report showed that complainant's stab wound affected his left lung and caused internal bleeding.

During the investigation, the defendant admitted to stabbing the man.
