An Indian startup is offering Rs1 lakh (approx. Dh5,100, $1,388) for doing nothing at all but simply sleeping. Calling all sleep lovers, sleep solutions startup, Wakefit, is looking for candidates to join their "sleep internship 2020 batch".
However, of the one conditions of the internship is to shun laptops during "work hours". According to reports in Business Insider, the company posted the offer on their website and invited applications from anyone who has a "fanatical passion" and "an innate ability" to fall asleep.
The internship specifies that sleep lovers should be able to fall asleep at the slightest given opportunity. Wittily specifying the dress code for the "dream job" is pyjamas, the job entails sleeping every night for nine hours, every week for 100 days. "We are looking to recruit the best sleepers in the country who are willing to go to any lengths to make sleep a priority in their lives," Chaitanya Ramalingegowda, director and co-founder of Wakefit.co said.
The company will give interns the startup's mattress to sleep while their sleeping patterns before and after using the mattress will be monitored. The interns will also be given counselling sessions and sleep trackers. "The Sleep Internship initiative aims to bring back the focus on sleep health by celebrating and applauding people who obsess about sleeping well," Ramalingegowda added.
"This initiative is another step towards making sleep an integral part of maintaining work-life balance in our lives," added Ramalingegowda.
