Egyptian contestants prepare for the Grand Finale of LG Egypt ConceptuaLife Competition 2011 in Dubai

LG Electronics (LG), the world’s leading innovator in home appliances, announced today that two lucky Egyptian winners of the ‘ConceptuaLife’ competition 2011 will receive the chance to travel to Dubai and compete regionally on30th May, 2011 for prizes worth-up to US $10,000.
LG ConceptuaLife competition is a regional design competition that provides a platform for university students to unleash their creativity and present their depiction of future kitchen designs and appliances.
Ahmed Assem, recent graduate of Helwan Fine Arts University, took home the FIRST WINNER title with his innovative design, titled “Plant Cells” which was inspired from the embryo of the plant. Galal El Deen Gamal a student at Helwan University came in 2nd place for his unique design titled “Ship Kitchen” which was inspired by the stability and spaciousness of ships. Ahmed Ibrahim, Al Shorouk University student came in 3rd place with his impeccable design that mainly focused on compatibility and space.
LG Egypt Managing Director Thomas Eom said: “ConceptuaLife as the name suggests is about developing concepts that can make life better and this is in line with LG’s philosophy. We saw some remarkable design in Egypt that we are sure will make an impression at the finale in Dubai. Our goal is to encourage local talent by giving design students from across the MEA region the opportunity to showcase their ideas to a wider audience. This also provides LG with insight into design visions for a greener tomorrow from the region’s youth and next generation consumers.”
Both Ahmed Assem and Galal El Deen Gamal; the first and second place winners will be travelling to Dubai on 30th May 2011 to compete with 12 finalists from UAE, Iran, KSA, South Africa, and Turkey. Each individual will be invited to present and explain their designs to an expert panel who will evaluate their work on uniqueness of design relative to existing kitchens, the use of innovative kitchen appliances, functionality, and use of space, storage and worktops. 1st prize winner will receive US$ 5,000 and an LG Optimus One mobile phone, 2nd prize winner will receive US$ 3,000 and an LG Optimus One mobile phone and the 3rd proze winner will receive US $2,000 and an LG Optimus One mobile phone. The grand prize for all 3 winners will be the opportunity to get a one month free internship at a highly reputed interior design company in Dubai.

All designs are expected to emphasize environmental solutions including the use of recycled material and durability, and will be scored accordingly. All these factors will weigh in on the judges’ decision as they look at the feasibility of bringing such designs to markets.
