The film al Wajaa' (Pain) by the Palestinian director Eyad al Daoud has recently won the shield of the Islamic Conference Organization’s first International Festival for TV Production held in Teheran in the middle of last month. The film’s director was also donated a special honor diploma for his unique direction style.

The 20-minute film depicts the testimony of Haggah Zainab Ismael before history and humanity on Dair Yasin massacre as evidenced by more than 30 of her relatives who died as martyrs. The film represents an attempt to keep the massacre live in memory as it took place in the first moments because it was the first pain, which the Palestinians suffered.

The massacre also witnessed the first core of establishing a state the philosophy of which is based on terrorism and killing in order to establish a regime of settlements called Israel.

This prize marks the forth one which the director won including Cairo Radio and TV silver prize which he secured twice consecutively in 2000 and 2001. He also won a prize at an Italian film festival in 2001.

“When I embark on an artwork, I introduce myself in it as a human being before I say I am an artist. Real humanity can guarantee our ability to convey the message in a spontaneous manner and makes us linked with people’s concerns and aspirations. I do not want to be more than that. What makes me happy are the reactions by my films’ stars when they see their films screened by the various ground and satellite channels,” al Daoud the UAE daily al Bayan.

He added, “any success in this respect is considered in the first place a success for the makers of this film, the Palestinian people who are still and after 53 years of the massacre sacrificing and resisting. They are real heroes who make our films. What we do is a true attempt to keep up with their heroism and sacrifices. Therefore I consider this new success an opportunity for me to thank who taught me this art for the role they played in maintaining our dignity and protecting the last Arab honor fortress.”

Eyad al Daoud is a 30-year old Palestinian born in Kuwait and worked in TV direction and production in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Palestine. He currently works in the United Arab Emirates for one of the Arab TV channels. Among his films also directed by him are al Quds Waad al Samaa (Jerusalem is Sky Promise), A’wdah (Return) and Maathen Fi Wajh al Damar (Minarets Opposite Destruction) -- Albawaba.com
