Syrian director Mohammed Fardos Atasi has wrapped up his series al Lawhah al Sawdaa (Black Painting) which has become ready for airing in the absence of its screenwriter late Yousef Qandalat.
The 25-episode series is about a formation artist called Muataz who faces financial hardship and refuses to do any job except drawing. He dreams of exhibiting his drawings at one of the exhibition halls but despite his repeated attempts he failed. The artist lives a transparent love with Salma, student in the school of arts, who agrees on marriage to her cousin out of her financial situation.
Muataz gets acquainted by chance to the family of the rich man Adham who smuggles antiquities and becomes involved with him in such illegal activities. After a series of adventures the smuggling operations are revealed and the gang members are arrested but Muatazz manages to escape. He decides to return home and faces his destiny after he becomes sorry for his actions.
“The main theme of the series is about a generation which seeks itself and its position in the society. We see this generation focusing on the consumption issues rather than the basic and cultural issues. The series reiterates that the old traditions still preserve the real assets of the society. The series characters are human beings who may do things right or make mistakes; become happy or angry; in other words the characters are not unilateral as we can see in some series. The series tackles a problem we face in our life, the relation between different generations and how to achieve proper and fruitful continuity between these generations,” the director told the UAE daily al Bayan.
Costarring in the series produced by the Syrian TV are Jamal Suleiman, Kamal al Bunni, Rafiq al Sebai’, Talat Hamdi, Hala Shawkat, Marah Jaber, Laila Jaber, Samer al Masri and others -- Albawaba.com
