Egyptian young actress Maya Shiha has secured a special appreciation certificate from the jury of the Golden Jubilee Egyptian Catholic Film Festival.
The award which has a special timely value has come in appreciation for her debut in the film Asrar al Banat (Girls’ Secrets) in which she embodies the various human and psychological changes during adolescence.
“I was selected by accident for starring in the film as the director Magdi Ahmed made a contest for more than 200 girls to choose one for performing the role. When he learnt that actress Hala has a younger sister, he asked to meet me and so he tapped me for the starring role. I read the script, which I liked very much but I was reluctant, because the role needed courage in performance. I sent my regrets on the day set for signing the contract but when I saw the film Ya Donia Ya Gharami, I realized that the director is a very respectful man who is competent in depicting sensitive situations with high standard of professionalism,” Maya (youngest sister of actresses Hala and Hana) told the daily al Ahram.
Regarding her forthcoming projects, she said, “in fact the film Asrar al Banat (Girls’ Secrets) has restricted my options as I received more than one script which did not convince me. I won’t accept any film that is less in value than my first film.”
“I am delighted with my appreciation certificate from the Golden Jubilee Catholic Festival and consider it a medallion I am proud of,” the young actress said.
About the mother and delivery scenes in which she performed competently, she said, “I used to ask my mother about these scenes. Anyhow, I played the character instinctively and when I stood in front of the camera I used to feel the wounds and pains of the character. Director Magdi Ahmed Ali helped me in depicting the circumstances of the character with great honesty.” -- Albawaba.com
