ALBAWABA - New reports have revealed that 2XKO, Riot Games' free-to-play fighting game, might already be dying after the League of Legends and Valorant developer laid off half of its team due to "disappointing" results.
Executive Producer for 2XKO, Tom Cannon, released a statement saying, "I wanted to take a moment to share an important update on 2XKO. This is a difficult update to share, but we want to be clear about what’s changing and why."
He added, "After a lot of discussion and reflection, we are reducing the size of the 2XKO team," and that "The game has resonated with a passionate core audience, but overall momentum hasn’t reached the level needed to support a team of this size long term."
Is 2XKO dying? Riot Games lays off half of team
However, it seems the game isn't dying yet, as Cannon hinted that support for 2XKO will continue with a "smaller, focused team," adding that they will share an update regarding future plans soon. He wrote, "We’re reshaping the team to give 2XKO a more sustainable path forward."
A former gameplay animator on the game called Thomas Huynh took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, "Got laid off from Riot today. 2XKO was everything I wanted - my dream studio, my dream project, animating fighting game characters with some of the best in the industry. I poured my heart into every animation, every frame. Seeing those characters come alive was magic."
Content creator Scarra wrote, "2xko news feels awful to hear. Loved that riot was getting into fighting games and to hear layoffs 2 weeks after the launch just looks bad."
