The famous Egyptian comedian Adel Imam accused the Islamic Palestinian movement Hamas of hateful behavior toward Egypt since Hamas seized power of the Gaza Strip by force in June 2007.
Imam made his statement from the “Al Haram Theatre” in Cairo, prompted by the recent death of an Egyptian soldier at the Rafah border between Egyptian and Gaza
Imam showed his support for the Egyptian government’s latest effort to protect the Rafah border by constructing a security fence.
“Every country has the right to protect its boarders and to build fences for protection,” said Imam.
The Hamas-led government in Gaza has repeatedly asked Egyptian authorities to allow medical patients in need of live saving care, unavailable in Gaza, to be allowed to cross the Rafah border. Rafah, one of two passenger borders remains mostly closed. Erez, the other passenger border located along the Gaza-Israel border is closed to Palestinians.
The tiny coastal enclave is home to over 1.5 million Palestinians.
