Egyptian film star Adel Imam, an ambassador of good will at the United Nations, is back to Cairo after he participated in the meetings of the UN good ambassadors.
On the sidelines of the three-day meetings held at the UN headquarter in New York, Imam met the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, and requested the increase of the support for the Palestinian refugees under the Israeli occupation.
A number of world stars participated in the meetings of the UN good ambassadors, including Angelina Jolie, Danny Glover and Harry Belafonte.
Imam managed to blend art with politics by coming close to the concerns of the public and simple citizens. His roles are not limited only to art but also to effective political activities which he started in 1988 by visiting the upper Egypt city of Asut where he performed the play al wad Sayyed al Shghal without being scared of the threats of the terrorist organizations. He also played a role in a film against terrorism also.
“I consider terrorists as colonialists and so I decided to fight them until they go away,” said Imam commenting on these initiatives.
The renowned actor confirmed his patriotic and humanitarian initiatives when he traveled to Morocco to portray the play al Zae’em (Leader) and donate the proceeds for Jerusalem to maintain Arab land ownership in East Jerusalem. He was honored by the late King Hasan II during the visit.
Following his visit to Morocco, Imam made a trip on board of an Egyptian plane to the Palestinian Authority land without obtaining an Israeli entry visas in order to participate in the Palestinian celebration of Gaza Airport inauguration -- Albawaba.com
