Patton Oswalt was dating again. Now Patton Oswalt is engaged.
The comedian made a name for himself starring in fare like Ratatouille (2007) and The King of Queens (1998 – 2007); he’s also done less strictly comedic fare, like Big Fan (2009). His standup albums are fun, too.
But Oswalt first really came to my attention in 2016, when he began publicly discussing his grief over his wife Michelle McNamara’s sudden passing. I talked more about that here, as well as McNamara’s remarkable career and pursuit of the Golden State Killer (also known as EARONS).
It’s hard to connect with most celebrities; the relationship is too artificial and the celebrities themselves too vapid.
But Oswalt’s public grief made connecting with him so much easier. It felt like a collective. It’s a strange, unexpected byproduct of living in a digitally-connected world.
So it’s actually quite lovely to report that Patton Oswalt is now engaged.
