She's following in the footsteps of original Tomb Raider star Angelina Jolie by bringing the video game heroine to life on the big screen.

But over the last few weeks, Alicia Vikander has been subjected to vile sexist abuse by online trolls who claim that her 'boobs aren't big enough for the job'.

The Swedish actress, 28, has seen her svelte, muscular physique compared to buxom Angelia's voluptuous curves, which were given some extra padding for the 2001 film and its sequel.

Some of the comments online include, 'A tomb raider with smaller boobs? F**k that' and 'I don't like the new tomb raider actress. Her boobs aren't big enough for the job'.

Another post reads: 'Do I have to be the a**ole who says her t**s are too small for me to see her as Lara Croft? Do I have to be that guy? Do I have to be the one who f**king says it? I guess I do. Sorry.'

The same troll draws attention to shocking Rotten Tomato reviews - which have since been deleted - which saw the film was being given low scores because of the smaller size of Alicia's breasts. The film's rating currently stands at 51 per cent.

However, for every negative comment there are dozens more rallying behind Alicia and the sexist interpretation of the character.

'Have u seen Tomb Raider getting rotten tomato scores based purely on AV boob size ? Please help draw attention to these sexists...', one Twitter user posted.

Another shared: 'It's wild that I have to say this but here we are: If the new tomb raider movie is bad, ITS NOT BECAUSE THE ACTRESS' BOOBS WEREN'T BIG ENOUGH. Okay thanks.'

A third pointed out the double standards that still exist in the film industry, joking, 'I understand the outrage over the new TOMB RAIDER not having big boobs. I demand all my lead characters to have big boobs. Thor, John Wick, Dirty Harry, Robocop. Wake up, Hollywood!'

Another pointed out: 'Even if the Tomb Raider reboot had a girl with gigantic boobs she would still be criticized for her body, you can't win'.

Alicia herself recently admitted there is one infamous characteristic of Lara's she's failed to adopt.

Speaking on The Graham Norton Show last month, the Swedish beauty laughed: 'My breasts are not as pointy as the first Lara!'

While the actress admits she doesn't have the same physical appearance as the Lara from the famous video games on which the movies are based, she told Graham: 'I had a clear vision of how I wanted to play her.'

'I was a huge fan as a kid and whilst I was too scared to play the games when I was 10, I learnt all her moves.'

Dominic West, who plays Vikander’s father in the film, recently revealed to Vogue that the new adaptation focuses on 'Less boobs, more fighting'.
