Hip hip hooraaay! Mohammed Assaf did the Arab world proud last night after winning the MTV EMA for best Middle East Act.
The awards ceremony took place in Glasgow, Scotland, where Assaf was surrounded by the creme de la creme of the music industry, including British boyband One Direction, American singer Ariana Grande and Caribbean-American rapper Nicki Minaj.
Although the young star was also nominated for best Worldwide Act, Chinese pop starlet BiBi Zhou scooped that prize!
But that didn't put a downer on things for him; Assaf's smile was from ear to ear as he sincerely thanked his global network of fans for turning his MTV EMA nomination into a win.
"Thank you so much to the best fans for your amazing support. Congratulations to everyone who won today; I've won you (the fans) tonight and we've still got a long road ahead of us. I love you and 442," Assaf said in a thank you message on his Facebook page. That's just another award to add to his long list of enviable achievements.
The Gazan singer first shot to fame after winning the second season of Arab Idol in 2013. Shortly after he was named a goodwill ambassador for peace by The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). Since then, the singer has been performing all over the world, including Sao Paulo, Brazil, where he sang his World Cup single ‘#ASSAF360’ in front of the FIFA congress 64 to a global audience.
Congrats Assaf, we knew you would do it!
