Syrian newlywed actors Amal Arafeh and Abdul Mun’em Amaieri will both costar in a new social TV drama 'Imr'aa Fi Althil" (A Woman in the Shadow), which deals with the unfair laws towards women's basic rights. In the drama, Amal plays the leading role of Nada who fights the unjust and harsh conditions of life she is faced with from a social and judicial point.
According to the Arab magazine, Sayidaty, throughout the course of events in the series, Nada falls in love with a young man, and ends up marrying him and having a son. A short time into the marriage the husband (played by Abdul Mun'em) abandons his wife and child and is no where to be found. At this point problems begin to flood Nada's life as she struggles to survive and raise her son as a single mother.
The big surprise of the drama comes when the husband returns and demands custody of his son. He then takes his wife to court, and an unjust court decision grants him full custody of his son, disregarding the fact that he had deserted his son for no reason and the mother's hardships while raising her son.
Arafeh and Abdul Mun’em were married in early January 2003, after the couple had previously announced their engagement only a short time before.
Amal had been working hard trying to complete the scenario for a new TV drama before her wedding. The new drama will revolve around a young girl at the age of 17 (played by Amal) that transforms into a popular singer all over the Arab world. Shooting is expected to begin early next year after the singer returns from her honeymoon.
In October of last year, Arafeh completed scenes for another TV series "Awrak Imra'a" (A Female's Memoirs), with director Osama Shukeir. The series, written by Diana Fares and Samar Yazbek, tackles the younger generation recklessness and the illusions of love. Arafeh plays the role of young housewife, Nada, also a single mother, who was left behind by her equally young husband to raise their only son with very little money. Nada’s financial and social sufferings begin after her husband’s sudden departure, forcing her to go from one house to another trying to secure for herself and her child a stable lifestyle. After years of leading a desperate life, Nada’s ex-husband re-emerges married to a rich woman, battling to gain the custody of his only child.
Amal is contemplating offers from several music production companies on her upcoming album, after ending her contract with Megastar Company. Arafeh’s talents were passed on to her from her father Suheil Arafeh. She is one of Syria’s prominent singers, who started her career singing national songs composed by her father. From there, she came into acting, playing significant roles in a number of Syrian TV series, like “Eileh Khams Njoum” (A Five Stars Family), and “Khan Al Harir” (Al Harir Inn). – Albawaba.com
