Pop star Nancy Ajram inaugurated Sidon's International Festival, celebrated at the city's waterfront on Friday, and organized by the National Committee of Sidon International Festival, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Sidon municipality.

Crowds of fans from the various Lebanese regions flocked to the capital of the South, to meet their favorite singer.

Also, the event gathered panels of politicians, military figures, diplomats, and social dignitaries, among whom former president Michel Suleiman, former Prime Minister Fouad Saniora, Mrs. Lama Tammam Salam, Ministers Michel Pharaon and Raymond Araiji.

The event was held amid tight security measures after a threatening statement by the Islamic State group circulated on social networking websites.

Sidon municipal chief Mohammed al-Saudi has however dismissed the statement as fabricated.
