Drama fans, here’s a new channel for you to check out. Dubai-based Al-Sharqiya Television has launched Al-Sharqiya Drama, taking its total number of channels within Al-Sharqiya’s portfolio to three.

The pan-Arab broadcaster’s bouquet of channels includes general entertainment Al-Sharqiya TV, which was launched in 2004, as well as dedicated news channel Al-Sharqiya News, which was introduced in 2008. Al-Sharqiya Drama will broadcast 24 hours and focus primarily on Arabic and Turkish soap operas and dramas. Some of the shows lined up include exclusively produced shows by the station, such as Salima Basha, Al Dars Al Awwal, plus the Turkish series Jinan and Yaqout.

Alaa Al Dahhan, program director of Al-Sharqiya Television said: “We are very excited about the launch of Al-Sharqiya Drama. We have exclusive shows and series and some of these shows are produced by us so we are really excited about the response from our viewers across the Arab world.”

Al-Sharqiya Drama is available on Nilesat 102 and Hotbird 9.

Mahmoud makes his comeback

Two exciting albums are set to drop this Eid Al Fitr.

Egyptian singer Mahmoud Al Esseily makes his comeback with his fourth album Donya Gedeeda. Originally due to be released last July, the album experienced delays due to the Egyptian presidential elections. Donya Gedeeda will feature 14 tracks, including Eisha Helwa, Dehka, Al Leil and Enta Menni.

Meanwhile, Lebanese superstar Wael Kfouri is scheduled to release his Rotana-produced record. However, details about the CD are under lock and key prior to the official release.
