Starting Wednesday, 3 August, the fifth edition of the animated adventure franchise Ice Age -- Ice Age: Collision Course, directed by Mike Thurmeier and Galen T. Chu and written by Michael J. Wilson -- will be released in Egyptian Cinemas in 3D.
Two versions of the film will be screened: one in English and another dubbed into Arabic, according to MAD Solutions, a Cairo-based company that specialises in distribution, public relations and marketing for the film and entertainment industry.
The film will also premiere before its release in cinemas on Tuesday, 2 August, and the voice actors from the Arabic-dubbed version will be present.
In Ice Age: Collision Course, Scrat, the sabre-toothed squirrel, accidentally catapults himself into outer-space while trying to bury his acorn and ends up sending several asteroids on their way to a collision with Earth, threatening all life forms with extinction.
The story follows Manny, Diego, and Sid -- the characters from the previous Ice Age films -- who team up with Buck and embark on a long, thrilling journey in hopes to save themselves and the rest of the world from peril.
The film characters are voiced by Golden Globe-nominated actors Ray Romano, Denis Leary, John Leguizamo, Simon Pegg, Jennifer Lopez, and Oscar-nominated star Queen Latifah.
The Arabic-dubbed version of the film features the voice of Star Academy Arab World winner Nesma Mahgoub, Yasser Ezzat, Yasser Abdel Aziz, Adel Khalaf, Yamen Abd El-Nour, and Ahmed Khalil.
On its worldwide opening weekend alone, the film grossed $245 million, including $42 million in the US box office, against a budget of $105 million.
Plans of a sixth film have been announced, but the release date has not yet been confirmed.
