Was anyone else absolutely gobsmacked by Syrian star George Wassouf's comments about his fellow Syrian singer Asala?

In a televised interview with Tunisian TV channel "Al Tasi'a," George attacked Asala's personality, voice and political views.

"Her name doesn't reflect who she is," George said about Asala, whose name means "authenticity and uniqueness."

George went on to refer to her as a "whore."

"She's a whore, she even sings in a whorish way. Her dad, may he rest in peace, was a great artist and one of the best singers in Syria, but Asala thinks that God has only created her and no one else," the 55-year-old singer shockingly said.

But he didn't stop there. George continued to attack Asala for her anti-Bashar al Assad views, saying that "she has lost her country and home, she's a whore who has betrayed her country."

George then made a surprising claim about his fellow celebrity.

"Bashar al Assad sent her to Russia to get treated for paralysis; she was disabled before that happened," he claimed.

So how did Asala respond to George's extremely upsetting comments? She forgave him.

Believe it or not, Asala tweeted on Sunday evening saying, "Because I worry about him and respect his long musical history, and because I can't bear to hurt him because he was close friends with what was most precious to me (dad), I won't respond to his comments.

"I forgive him from the bottom of my heart. In fact, I wish him all the best."
