Asalah will not sing against Bashar Al Asad

Prominent Syrian singer Asalah Nasri has backed out of singing the song “Ah Lao Al Kursi Yehki” (Only if the chair could speak) which is an attack on Syrian President Bashar Al Asad. Asalah justified her decision by stating that the words of the song do not suit the thoughts she aims at expressing.

 

At the same time, Asalah stressed that she fully supports revolutionist in Syria who are calling political reform and to have their basic democratic rights met. The singer added that she does not hate or resent President Bashar Al Asad and does not aim at attacking him.

 

Asalah denied rumors that she had received threats from officials in Al Asad’s government forcing her to back out of singing the song.

 

During a press conference, Asalah stressed that her position in regards to the current conditions in Syria has been misunderstood and she never talked ill of the Syrian ruling regime. The singer stated that she does not understand why so many people began judging her over the song that has not been released.
