Lebanese singer Assi Hilani is preparing for a new role in the theater this summer dedicated to those suffering in the Arab world, especially the Iraqi and Palestinian people.

Hilani said to his fans that he will be “the star of Karkalla’s (Lebanese dancing group) theater.”

The play, Hilani’s first, will open at the Baalbek festival in Lebanon.

According to the London daily Elaph, Hilani has been working on the production of the play for over two years, after it was postponed due to the war in Lebanon.  Hilani also has a very busy schedule traveling for concerts and Arab festivals.

At his press conference held in Algeria, Hilani said that Syrian singer Asala Nasry asked him to compose a song for her.   He agreed to compose a traditional Lebanese song for the singer.

Hilani said that after his concert tour in Australia, he had a disagreement with music production company ‘Rotana’ about the conditions of his contract that he has yet to sign. Hilani hopes that both parties will reach an agreement soon.

Regarding Lebanese singer Nancy Ajram’s children’s album “Shakhbat Shakhabeet,” (Scribble and scratch) Hilani said that he is against recording songs for children, stating that children songs should be kept to experts in the field.

Hilani hosted two concerts in Algeria.
