A coming of age film based on a memoir by British journalist Lynn Barbar is coming to the screen tonight at Bahrain Cinema Club.

An Education is set in 1961 and is about an attractive, bright 16-year-old schoolgirl, Jenny, who is poised on the brink of womanhood.

Stifled by the tedium of adolescent routine, Jenny can't wait for adult life to begin.

One rainy day, her suburban life is upended by the arrival of an unsuitable suitor - 30-year-old David.

David introduces Jenny, who is played by Carey Mulligan, to a glittering new world of classical concerts and late-night suppers.

Just as the family's long-held dream of getting their brilliant daughter into Oxford seems within reach, Jenny is tempted by another kind of life.

Directed by Lone Scherfig, the film was nominated for three Oscars: Best Picture, Best Actress and Best Adapted Screenplay. It was also nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress, won a BAFTA Award for Best Actress, was nominated for another five BAFTA Awards and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance Film Festival. It will screen tonight at the club in Juffair at 7pm. Call 39682323 for further information.
