ALBAWABA - Syrian actor Bassel Khaiat revealed that he was stunned by the collapse of Bashar Assad on December 8 stressing that he was very proud and optimistic about the new stage in Syria.

In an interview with Al Arabiya, the Syrian artist detailed how he suffered under Bashar Assad’s regime, even though he immigrated at the beginning of the revolution in 2011.

He confirmed that his immigration decision came because he was not comfortable and had no room to say a word of truth. However, he also never made any political statements even while abroad.

Bassel Khaiat said that he was surprised over one year ago that his name was listed as wanted by Syrian intelligence and that the authorities there had prevented him from renewing his passport despite his presence abroad.

It is noteworthy that the Syrian regime collapsed on December 8 days after the Syrian opposition led by Hay'ay Tahrir al-Sham's announcement of a special operation against Assad and his government.
