DAVID Beckham’s acting career got off to a disappointing start after his debut film flopped at the box office.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword only made $14.7million (£11.m) in its US opening weekend – despite its massive $175million (£135.7m) production budget. It will open in UK cinemas on Friday.

Beckham has a cameo role as a hardened knight in the film, directed by close friend Guy Ritchie. After a trailer was released, fans flocked to Twitter to poke fun at Beckham’s ‘cringeworthy’ performance.

Speaking on stage at the UK premiere last week, Beckham said his acting debut was not ‘a new career’. He said: ‘This is just something I was doing for someone I love.’
